How it works?

Textbooks are very expensive, and the amount most stores pay you for a used book is just pennies on the dollar. It only makes sense to rent them!

With Chegg there are no hidden charges. The average rental price on Chegg offers significant savings compared to the publisher's suggested list price! Each book has a rental fee based on the length of the period required.

Chegg offers the following rental periods:

Semester: 125 days
Quarter: 85 days
60-Day rental

Rental prices may change from time to time depending on the marketplace. However, prices do not change once an order is placed.

Extending a rental

You can choose to rent a book for a longer period by clicking "I need additional days" when placing the order.

To extend the rental period for an order that has already been placed, please click here or follow the instructions below. You will be prompted to sign in.

Click the title of any book you'd like to keep longer
Click the "Extend" button at the right side of the page
Follow the prompts to extend your rental

Sales Tax

We charge the applicable sales tax due on textbook rentals, which varies depending on your state. The sales tax applicable on your rental is shown on the order confirmation page during the checkout process.

How to sell books

If you have textbooks that are gathering dust, they can still be useful to you and others through our Buyback program.

4. If a book is in high demand, you will be given a quote for cash or Chegg Credit based upon the condition

6. Follow the prompts to generate a prepaid UPS shipping label
7. Send the books within three days so your quote does not expire
8. We plant a tree for every book you sell or donate to Chegg
